The Core Class is a 3 year initiative for Sunday school born out of a desire to put our “best foot forward” when it comes to doing what Sunday School is meant to do, namely, disciple our congregants toward maturity in Jesus through learning Bible and theology. While the traditional Sunday School model might be “good enough”, we believe that classes with a progression of content taught by the leaders in the church who have been trained biblically and theologically for this work is a good and faithful step forward in the life of our church.
What will this look like?
This program will last three years, each year consisting of one class (Sept.- May). The Core Class is typically held during the Sunday School hour, 9:30-10:20am, so that we are able to maximize the number of people who are able to go. However for 2020-2021, we will meet on Thursdays at 6:30pm and stream the class online.
- The first-year: The Core Story of the Bible, following the major narrative of the Bible and attending to its many genres.
- The second-year: The Core Themes of the Bible, observing those many realities that sweep throughout all of scripture, shifting and developing as the people of God gain more revelation of who He is.
- The third-year class: The Core Beliefs of the Church, formulating faithful ways of saying what the church knows to be true and what needs to be said in our time, while remembering what has been said by the church throughout history.
Please join us either in-person or online this fall for Year 3 of the Core Class.
